Smorgasbord

"Mom, come look at the fence. Is that a squirrel tail hanging over the edge?" Thing 1 called from the kitchen. It took me a minute to focus into where he was pointing and sure enough two little squirrel feet and a bushy little tail were squirming over the back fence.

Mesmerized we watched. With great effort the rest of the squirrel soon appeared on top of the fence. And in his thieving little hands he was carrying an apple from the neighbors tree. With great care he toddled on two feet to the corner post where he immediately started chomping away. Bits of apple flew as his hungry little face attacked its juicy prey.

I love those squirrels even if they are really hungry. I watched the same one carry 3 or 4 apples along the fence line yesterday. He wasn't much of a fence runner with all of that weight.

Wow, that looks like the New Jersey Squird. Those are furry creatures that eat from the bird feeders in my yard. I don't get many birds, but the Squirds are plentiful.

I love squirrels!! I have a friend who hates them and curses their existence every time she sees one run across her fence. We even had one as a pet growing up in M-ville. We would hold peanuts in our fingers and he would come up to the back door and take it from us!! Looking back, it probably wasn't the safest idea, but it was lots of fun!!

Great pic! I can't believe you found your camera in time! Maybe he was moving kind of slow after his feast. =]
